Yuping Zhu grew up in Massachusetts suburbia, close enough to the mall but not the Boston skyline. In balancing the dichotomies of her hometown, she came to embrace the vast and contrasting collection of memories and emotions that made her. As Yuping fell in love with the art of storytelling, she began to further discover, reinvent, and support the layered facets of her identity through her music.
Her songwriting is the fusion of her roots in classical music with a modern country pop twist. Yuping paints the raw, emotive, words she never had the nerve to say out loud before– not even to herself– onto a carefully crafted canvas of melodies. She plays guitar and piano with grace and tender character, using them to craft the unique heartbeat of each song she writes. Yuping’s music is nostalgic in a new way, soft in a bold voice, a bit Tennessee and Massachusetts at the same time.
Throughout the years, Yuping has been recognized as “One to Watch” by Nashville Songwriters Association International, featured on Kruser’s Local Catch and Boston’s Hit Country 102.5, and spotlighted on 95.9 WATD’s Tiny Stage. She has also performed at many venues, including the legendary Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee.
